Email Prioritizer, Outlook Add-in

Office Labs has been fairly busy this year.

So far they’ve released the Search Commands plugin for Office 2007, which I thoroughly recommend you install.

Next was Community Clips, a resource to help people learn Office functions.

Speed Launch was an unusual app to come out of Microsoft and was released a month or so ago, a start menu like launcher for dragging and dropping shortcuts.

Then came pptPlex which was a useful tool for converting your powerpoint slides into zoomable, moveable canvases.

Today the announced yet another prototype, one which I think will be popular with email inundated office workers:

Our latest prototype, Email Prioritizer, includes these features:

A "Do Not Disturb" button that stops incoming mail delivery so you can work without interruptions.

Email priorities are assigned to incoming mail so you can focus on the most important mail first. With a “0-3 stars” ranking system, you can focus on email messages that are most important to you. These priorities are based on algorithms from Microsoft Research.

The prototype is an Outlook 2007 add-in and it’s available for immediate download. Try it and let us know what you think! Your feedback can help us determine if this is an effective method for improving your productivity.

I received the confirmation email saying expect a release in a few weeks? That the one?

Incidentally... how are you aiming on differentiating yourself from Xobni? From what I can see from your site you are more about organizing and prioritizing emails themselves, where Xobni is about connecting the people and networks behind the emails? Am I right?

I think you are mostly right. At the highest level, Xobni is focused on finding and displaying information related to specific contacts, while ClearContext is focused on finding and organizing information from multiple sources that is related to the same projects.

It got stuck in my Junk mail, haha.

I've been trying it out this evening... It's actually an incredibly useful tool... in fact I would have to see more useful even then Xobni, a good thing perhaps seeing as I had to turn that off because the two didn't play nice together. Where you aware of this?

Anyway Ill try it a bit longer then write up a post about it! For me personally, the attachment explorer is such a useful feature!

Being able to a colour to Clear Context topics/categories would be a nice touch.

Great addition to the Outlook 2007 suite. I'm going to give it a try. I struggle with follow up and prioritization so i created a addin that is very simple, but really helps keep track of the emails is send other people. That's my biggest issue. I'm pretty good about following up on the emails people send me, but I often send emails to other people and they forget to do what i asked. I created the Outlook Trackit Addin to stay on top of the emails i send other people.

Looks like a handy little tool!

How easy are these little Ribbon addins to create? Apparently they're pretty straight forward to knock up, although I'm no programmer I wouldn't know. Be nice to see more of these kind of addins around though.

I'll be trying this out as well... =)
