AutoRate Songs in Media Monkey
Written by Josh on Sunday, August 24th, 2008
I just reviewed music management software Media Monkey over at gHacks today. I mentioned that it can be extended using scripts.
Today I found a great script which although it’s a little old, it still works well with the latest Media Monkey release, 3.03.
I would love to have all of my songs rated properly so I’m able to create better playlists automatically, yet I really cannot be bothered going through my music and rating it from 1 – 5 stars. Besides, I can never work out exactly what I should give a song.
AutoRate uses a number of different statistics to work out a rating for each of your songs which will be continually adjusted based on what you play:
This script rates the songs of your library based on informations like Playcounter, DaysInLibrary, PlayedPerDay, LastPlayed and SkipCounter. This way the rating will also be increased if you listened a song with your portable player like ipod!
The script uses a algorithm and does “more than just rating songs”:
Autocalibration
This means you don’t have to worry about your entire library ending up disproportionately rated to just a couple different ratings, such as all 5, or all 1. Just set the values to what you prefer, such as you can see in the screenshot below:
Keep Manual Rating
If you have already rated some of your library then turning this option on means those ratings will not be touched. Preferable for some of your favourite songs probably.
Skip Detection
Checks if the song has been skipped after just a few seconds. Generally indicates the song isn’t that great, but you can also deactivate this easily from the menubar.
Hope this helps you sort your music! Subscribe to this blog if this was a useful post and get more each day.
