GimmeSomeTune; an iTunes Plugin You Need
Written by Josh on Monday, September 8th, 2008About a month ago I decided it was time for me to download iTunes and try it out. It gets consistently referred to as the best music jukebox (and perhaps the most popular as well) I tried it for a very short time a few years ago but quickly uninstalled it for being horribly slow and incredibly annoying with updates.
The second time I tried it performance had improved a bit but was still horrible, worse the WMP11 definitely and Apple Updates had become even more annoying. The best thing about iTunes however is there are plenty of plugins and extensions available for it.
GimmeSomeTune is a new plugin for iTunes on Mac OSX which will help you sort out your library and fix tags and album art.
Features include,
Album Art: find it for the playing song. I have no idea if it also saves the picture to the song’s tags.
Find Lyrics: locate, view and edit song lyrics. Again, I don’t know if this is saved into the comment tag of the song or just stored locally. Displays the lyrics in a lyrics panel.
Info Window: A nice little info display like the one you see above.
Supports Last.FM: “Be part of the world’s largest social music platform. Let GimmeSomeTune do the work for it.” I don’t know if this means the plugin just scrobbles your songs to your Last.FM account, or if there are added features such as browsing the site via iTunes or recommending artists based on Last.FM data.
Customizable: Change colours and the information displayed in the info window.
I haven’t tested this myself being a Windows user, but if you’ve tried it then let us know what you think in the comments.
